Rank Math reshaped the WordPress SEO plugin market. Yoast had long been the default, and Rank Math arrived with a free version covering features Yoast reserved for its paid tier, which gave site owners a strong reason to compare the two. Pros and cons
What you get
- Free version is feature-rich: schema markup, redirects and a 404 monitor are included at no cost
- Pro is low-cost compared with most SEO subscriptions
- Built-in AI content assistant, Google Search Console integration, and advanced schema editor
What it costs you
- WordPress only — no use if you're on Shopify, Wix, or a custom stack
- Not a substitute for a real keyword research or backlink tool. It optimises content, it doesn't find opportunities
- Can conflict with other WordPress plugins if your setup is complex
Our verdict
Rank Math is one of the easiest SEO wins on WordPress, and Pro costs far less than most tools on this site. Start with the free version and upgrade to Pro once you need the AI assistant and advanced schema.
